Abernathy Bridge

This bridge spans the Willamette River between Oregon City & West Linn. It was completed in 1970 and carries over 100,000 vehicles per day.

Broadway Bridge

This is a rare Rall-type bascule bridge, completed in 1913. The Broadway bridge is the longest remaining bridge of its type in the world. Its lift span is 305 feet.

       
           
           

Burlington Northern Mile 5.1 Lift Bridge, Portland Oregon

BN 5.1 Bridge

The original railroad bridge was built in 1908 and had a large swing span in the middle to allow ship navigation. The swing span was replaced in 1989 with the 4th highest lift span in the world.

     
           
           

Burlington Northern Mile 9.6 Bridge, Columbia River

BN 9.6 Bridge

This bridge carries the Burlington Northern railroad over the Columbia River. The 9.6 designates the number of miles from the Portland station the bridge is located.

       
           
           

Burnside Bridge, Portland, Oregon

Burnside Bridge

This is a bascule bridge with distinctive Italian renaissance towerss at the lift span. The bridge was completed in 1926 and replaced an earlier swing bridge built in 1894.

Fremont Bridge

This bridge was completed in 1991 and replaced the historic McCullogh-designed span which was built in 1936. The harsh coast environment has not been kind to the original bridges along highway 101.

       
           
           

Glenn Jackson Bridge (Interstate 205)

Glenn Jackson Bridge

This bridge is nearly 7500 feet long and was completed in 1982. It carries freeway & bike traffic over the Columbia River east of Portland. Its longest individual span is 600 feet.

       
           
           

Hawthorne Bridge, Portland, Oregon

Hawthorne Bridge

The Hawthorne Bridge is the oldest vertical lift bridge in the United States, completed in 1910. Today it not only serves cars, but is also the busiest bike and transit bridge in Oregon.

       
           
           

Interstate Bridge, Portland to Vancouver, Washington

Interstate Bridge

The original span was built in 1917, but by the 1950's traffic had grown and a second matching lift bridge was completed in 1958. Today over 150,000 vehicles cross the bridge daily.

Lake Oswego Railroad Bridge

This is a railroad-only truss bridge owned by Union Pacific and connects Lake Oswego and Milwaukie over the Willamette River.

       
           
           

Marquam Bridge, Portland

Marquam Bridge

The Marquam is a double level cantilever bridge that carries Interstate 5 over the Willamette River in downtown Portland. It is the busiest bridge in the state of Oregon.

       
           
           

McLoughlin Bridge, Gladstone, Oregon

McLoughlin Bridge

The John McLoughlin bridge is a steel bridge designed by famed bridge designer Conde McCullough in 1933. It is 720 feet in total lenght and spans the Clackamas River.

 
           
           

Morrison Bridge, Portland

Morrison Bridge

The site of the Morrison Bridge is the same as the first crossing of the Willamette, completed in 1887. The present bridge dates to 1958.

       
           
           

Oregon City Bridge

Oregon City Bridge

This is one of a few Conde McCullough-designed spans in the Portland area. It is a concrete arch main span of 360 feet. This bridge is built in an art deco style and opened in 1922.

       
           
           

Ross Island Bridge, Portland

Ross Island Bridge

This bridge was designed by famous engineer Gustav Lindenthal and opened in 1926. It carries US highway 26 over the Willamette River. The center span of the bridge is 535 feet.

       
           
           

St. Johns Bridge, Portland, Oregon

St. Johns Bridge

This is the only suspension bridge in Portland. It spans over 1200 feet and is over 200 feet above the river below. It features a distinctive gothic design.

       
           
           

Sauvie Island Bridge, Multnomah County

Sauvie Island Bridge

The original 1950 steel truss span is being replaced by a new tiered arch span due to open in 2008. The new bridge has a longer main span than the original, 365 feet.

       
           
           

Sellwood Bridge, Portland

Sellwood Bridge

This is another Gustav Lindenthal design, completed in 1925 south of downtown Portland on the Willamette River. There are plans to replace this aging bridge.

       
           
           

Steel Bridge, Portland, Oregon

Steel Bridge

This bridge is the only lift bridge in the world that can lift either of its two levels independently of each other. It carries freight trains, light rail trains, vehicles and bikes over the Willamette in Portland
